Why Revis needs to be “Primetime” for Jets.

The Jets are in a tight situation with their number one overall pick in the ’07 draft. Being picked 14th is not the same pressure as having been selected one through five. For this rookie it will be very close, with fans having higher expectations for a team that won ten games last season . Also many believe that the Jets over paid Carolina for moving up in the draft. Although the trade did seem very one sided in favor of Carolina, it was a very big hole the Jets needed to fill in the secondary. Lets face it the Jets secondary was thinner then Nicole Richie during this past offseason. This season the Jets are going to need their cornerbacks to be a strength not a weakness during the ’07 campaign. Now that the Patriots have a real time wide out in Randy Moss the Jets will need to count on their corners and safties heavily if they want a shot at beating New England at all this upcoming year. It can not be just a one man show at the cornerback positions either because the Jets division rivals have a solid second option in every team that they will face twice this season. Miami with Marty Booker, Buffalo with Peerless Price, and New England with Donte Stallworth. Revis will be counted on this season with a team that expects to contend for the division title and go deep into the playoffs. He can impact the Jets in a negative fashion, bringing out people that will say they over paid for him and what were the guys in the front office thinking. But if Revis can be successful and shutdown some of the top recievers that their division foe’s have then it will be percieved as the Jets going out and addressing a need no matter what it took. All you can do now is let the season play out and let this rookie make people forget all about the extra draft picks they used to get him.
