Jets O-line has to stand their ground this season.

blk.jpgThe Jets offensive line could be one of their greatest assests this upcoming season. They have one of the better young O-lines in the league. Players like Mangold at Center and Ferguson at left tackle make this line something to look forward to in 2007. Not everything is perfect for this line though, Pete Kendall is supposedly fueding over a new contract that the Jets will not give to him. They showed this by demoting Kendall to second team during minicamp. One possibility is Kendall gets cut or even traded by the start of the season.

While that situation is up in the air the rest of the line has to work on improving on last season. This line will need to be quicker then O.J.’s white Bronco fleeing town in ’94. They are going to have to put up with the likes of Jason Taylor and Joey Porter not to mention the endless stunts and dropping back of D-linemen from New England.

Last year people did not expect much from this young line starting two rookies. After a year to grow people now want over a thousand yards from Thomas Jones which means this line has some work to do. Leon Washington had only 650 yards last season although he was not the feature back and only started 8 games last year. That is a great start for this line and if it holds true then it means we can expect 1,000 yards from Jones, who had 1210 yards for the bears last year.

This line will need to do one last thing this season to have a so called successful year. They need to keep Chad Pennington off his back. This is important when your Quarterback is as fragile as a boxer with Brittle Bone disease. Last year was his only year in his career where he had started all 16 regular season games. He may do it again this year but if this line does not hold up look for Pennington to be on the I.R. before the bye week even rolls around.
