Cotchery’s Time to Shine

jets_lede.jpgWhen you think of the Jets number one option at wide-out you think of Laveranues Coles right? Well, that may be changing sooner then later if Jerricho Cotchery keeps improving at the pace he is at. After only starting one game in ’05 and racking up only 251 yards he turned it around last year.

Starting all 16 games last season and snagging 82 receptions with 961 yards can really turn some heads in your direction. Coles his counter part had 91 receptions with 1098 yards. Yes, Coles numbers were a slight better then Cotchery’s but Coles was expected to put up those kind of numbers. On the other side of the coin Coles has been doing this for years while Cotchery has only put up the numbers for one season. Another thing going against Cotchery is with a better running game less balls are going to be in the air and even less are going to be to him. Lets face it, the Jets running game was as existent as Big Foot riding a unicorn down your street, it just wasn’t there.

Even with all that, Cotchery still has a chance at a breakout season. If he can improve on his game as he did last year Jets fans will have a new number one reciever they can scream for on Sunday nights. Coles can still play but you have to look to the future before you have nobody able to catch the ball. You would hate to have that prevent you from going all the way and kicking yourself about it after it is too late.
