Signs Point to Jones Being Ready to go in Week One

Jets running back Thomas Jones continues to try and heal from a calf injury and according to Monday’s New York Post, it does appear that the big free agent acquisition might be ready to go for Sunday’s game at home vs the Pats.  Jones missed the final three preseason games with the injury, that was suffered in a practice after the teams first preseason game, a win over the Falcons. He has rushed for over 2,500 yards over the last two seasons with the Bears, and he is being counted on to help out a Jets running game that was in a flux last season with musical running backs. Head coach Eric Mangini didn’t say for sure that Jones was going to play in Sunday’s opener vs New England, but that seems to be the direction that the team is pointing in.  The question now will be about the offensive line, which lost Pete Kendell last week when the team traded him to the Redskins.  Can they open holes enough for Jones, and keep Chad Pennington on his feet without getting beat up enough this season?
