Jets Likely To Retain Defensive Coordinator

New York Jets defensive coordinator Bob SuttonIf you’re a fan or at least a follower of the New York Jets, then you know about the rumors floating around about the team’s defensive coordinator, Bob Sutton and whether he was going to remain in his current capacity with the Jets.  It looks like Sutton will be retained by the team, according to Mark Cannizzaro of the New York Post and verified by a NFL source.

Sutton, who has been with the Jets for 8 years, spanning 3 head coaches (Al Groh, Herm Edwards and Eric Mangini), was overseer of a defense that was ranked 18th overall, especially after a marked improvement during the second half of the 2007 regular season; however, Mangini had his hand in the defense after the bye week.  After the end of the season, Mangini was asked as to whether Sutton would remain with the team, he was non-committal in his answer.  Now that the evaluation process is complete, the source previously mentioned reiterated to the Post, “Bob Sutton isn’t going anywhere.”
