What Does the Future Hold for Chad Pennington?

Pennington

The Jets have stated since the end of the season that they would like to retain quarterback Chad Pennington, but the New York Daily News is reporting that it’s no sure thing that Pennington will be back wearing green next season in New York. It is under the belief that Pennington will compete with Kellen Clemens for the starting QB job this summer, but it may be Pennington and his agent, Tom Condon, who will ask the team to let him go.

There was speculation that Pennington would look to possibly move to Kansas City, where he would be able to reunite with head coach Herm Edwards, who was always a big fan of Pennington. He would be able to challenge Damon Huard and Brodie Croyle for the starting job in KC from day one. Another team that may have interest is Tampa Bay, who wants a strong veteran backup QB for Jeff Garcia.

As far as coming back to the Jets, it’s not a done deal he won’t, but last season was a frustrating one for Pennington, who at one point was booed by his own home fans when he got hurt in a game. His lack of arm strength has always been an issue, and seemed to really be a problem during the 2007 season. While he likely could beat out Clemens in training camp, it will be interesting to see if he forces the Jets hands and tries to push himself out to a team elsewhere.

I have on comment to make about Chad Penninton. He is the best QB we have had in the past 20 years. When it comes to his am strength I have one thing to say about that. Look at the NFL Combine every year. The fastest guy runs the 40 in 4.2 sec. Chad has only 2 sec to get rid of the ball with our front line. There is now way he can show he has an arm with that time. THINK ABOUT IT.
