TE Utecht Visits Jets

The New York Jets contnue their pursuit to improve on their anemic 4-12 season in 2007 as they hosted Indianapolis Colts free agent tight end Ben Utecht for a visit on Monday; Utecht, who caught 31 passes for 364 yards as a member of the Colts, was being targeted by the Jets as a piece to complement fellow TE Chris Baker.
Utecht is considered a “non-compensation” restricted free agent, meaning that the Colts have the right to match any offer for him; however, if he signs elsewhere, the team that signs Utecht owes the Colts nothing in return. An NFL source told the New York Post that the Colts ate not believed to be serious in re-signing Utecht, who visited the Bengals last week.
