Week 8 Preview: Jets Ready to Battle KC

Jones runs over the Raiders
The New York Jets had a golden shot Sunday to move to 4-2 and stay right in the thick of the playoff race in the AFC and AFC East. Instead, their defense allowed just enough yards for the Raiders to get in field goal range for a 57-yard boot that sent them to a crushing 16-13 OT loss in Oakland. This Sunday they return home for the Kansas City Chiefs, a team that if they dont’ beat, would be an even bigger loss.

The Jets at 3-3 are looking to get more consistent on both sides of the ball. Against the Raiders they had a great day rushing as Thomas Jones ran for 159 yards and the team put up 242 total yards on the ground, and 418 total yards in the game. Problem was they were only able to put up one touchdown, and QB Brett Favre threw two picks, as the passing game was a big letdown.

Now they take on a Chiefs team that allowed a crazy 332 rushing yards to the Titans in a 34-10 loss Sunday at home, and 455 total yards. If the Jets do what they did Sunday on the ground, they should be able to shread a KC defense that has been a big letdown this season. They are young, but even coach Herm Edwards must have nightmare about how bad this is.

On offense, the Chiefs should get Larry Johnson back, despite all his off the field issues. If the Chiefs have any chance in this game, they have to get him going, as well as have an error free game from young QB Tyler Thigpen, who is back in the starting role for the second time this season. The Jets D is rather stingy, so points for KC will likely again be tough to come by.

All in all, the Jets should with ease move to 4-3 after Favre gets back into a groove at home, and the running game runs over the Chiefs. For Edwards and his young team, it will be another long afternoon filled with mistakes and miscues that should take them to their 6th loss in 7 games.
