Jets head coach Eric Mangini gave a lukewarm endorsement Wednesday to embattled defensive coordinator Bob Sutton, who could be out of a job if the Jets don’t make the playoffs. Asked point-blank if he’s happy with Sutton’s performance, Mangini replied: “Yeah, I think that we all can do a lot better.” The Jets are ranked 17th in total defense and 19th in scoring defense (they were 18th and 19th last season, respectively), but several defensive players are disgruntled because they believe they’re not receiving proper in-game adjustments from the coaches.
