Coles Wants a Long-Term Deal from the Jets

From: Newark Star-Ledger

With all the talk of who will still be with the Jets next season, wide receiver Laveranues Coles refused to address his future after the Jets’ 24-17 loss to the Dolphins. Coles, who lobbied for a new contract last offseason and was instead guaranteed the final two years of his contract at $11 million, still wants a long-term deal and he’ll likely talk to the club in the coming weeks. “That’s not something that prudent now,” said Coles, who had four catches for 88 yards and a touchdown Sunday. “We just lost a ballgame.”

Coles, a ninth-year pro, was promised by the organization that it would revisit his contract following the season if he stayed quiet and stayed healthy. He did both. Coles finished with 70 catches for 850 yards and seven touchdowns. He was second to wideout Jerricho Cotchery (71-858-5) in receptions and yardage. And, according to someone close to him, he played nearly the entire season with a torn left quad muscle. That person spoke on the condition of anonymity because he’s not authorized to speak for Coles or the Jets.
