Conflicting Reports Coming In on Schottenheimer

From: Pro Football

There are conflicting reports regarding whether New York Jets coach Brian Schottenheimer will remain with the team in that capacity after being passed over for the head-coaching gig that went to Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan on Monday, the New York Daily News reports.

Per Jets beat writer Rich Cimini, SNY’s Steve Overmyer is reporting that Schottenheimer will remain in New York. NFL Network’s Adam Schefter said that Schottenheimer is still weighing his options after speaking with USC coach Pete Carroll about the offensive coordinator job that went to Jeremy Bates.

[Editor’s note: Our buddy Todd Wright of Sporting News Radio tells us that Bates will be assistant head coach/quarterbacks at USC, and that Johnnie Morton has been promoted from receivers coach to offensive coordinator.]

If Schottenheimer opts to leave, Ryan could tab Ravens quarterbacks coach Hue Jackson as his offensive coordinator.

As we’ve also reported previously, the article reiterates that Ravens outside linebackers coach Mike Pettine is expected to be named Ryan’s defensive coordinator. Either Pettine is just a really neat guy, or his office suddenly just got very clean at the Ravens’ headquarters.

Ryan will be formally introduced Wednesday morning at the Jets’ training facility where presumably some of these unanswered questions are bound to come up.
