Schottenheimer Says He’s Like Favre Back

The Brett Favre talk will continue until the future Hall of Fame QB makes his decision on if he is going to come back or not in 2009. For now though, one person that has a lot to say about Favre’s success says he’d like him back – that being offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer. “I would welcome the opportunity to coach Brett again,” Schottenheimer said today.

The O-coordinator has yet to speak to Favre about a decision for the 09 season, but a decision should come in a few weeks, and if he does, Schottenheimer says he’d welcome him back for a 19th season. “I really enjoyed coaching Brett, I really did,” he said. “So, when I said I’d welcome the chance to coach him again, I really, really enjoyed being around him, I enjoyed working with him. We had a heck of a relationship and I don’t think anything would change if he does decide to come back again this season.”

Favre and his poor play down the stretch was a big reason for the team going 1-4 in their last five games and missing the playoffs. They were 8-3 after a big win in Tennessee, but the bottom really fell out after that and it cost coach Eric Mangini his job by the time it was all over.

Schottenheimer says with Farve back, he sees now reason that with some changes to the roster with new head coach Rex Ryan, that the team should be able to compete for a playoff birth in the 2009 season.
