Coach Mike Westhoff got a “special” delivery yesterday when Larry Izzo, a three time AFC Pro Bowl Special Teams player arrived on his doorstep. With three Super Bowl rings on his fingers, and a mojo that shows no sign of letting up, this 13 year veteran left New England to signed on with the New York Jets, his third AFC East team.
His signing lessens the sting of losing Jets’ 2008 Special Teams Captain David Bowens, along with special teamers C.J. Mosley, and Hank Poteat to the Cleveland Browns. Izzo credits Westhoff, with playing a “key role” early in his career while at the Dolphins and is “grateful for the chance to be reunited” with his first coach.
Off the field, he’s passionately involved with charitable efforts for the U.S. Armed Forces. In fact, he’s hosted a celebrity karaoke night he calls, “Larry-oke.” So, sing us a sweet song, Mr. I, that keeps punt and kick returners far from the end zone and all Jet fans will be happy to sing along.
