Jay’s on the Block & Mr. T’s on the Clock

Start salivating Jet Fans…according to almost every media report, the Jets are seriously trying to make a deal with the Broncos for Jay Cutler. But, so are a gaggle of other teams including the Washington Redskins and their ever aggressive owner, Daniel Snyder, armed with bags of money and a young QB (Jason Campbell) with a year of NFL experience.

It was thought that the Lions, with the 1st and 20th picks in the draft, would be leading contenders, but Mike Francesa on WFAN reports that they have decided to use their number one pick on the QB from Georgia, Matt Stafford.

The disgruntled Cutler comes with 3 more years on his contract, making this a financial win for the Jets. That, added to his 4,526 yards, 25 TD/18 INT in 2008, the great aerial show he put on in the Meadlowlands in late November, and the potential to help sell those expensive PSL’s, probably has Woody Johnson already practicing his penmanship.

In order to be contenders for the prize QB, the Jets may have to offer up their 17th pick, plus a third round pick and a defensive player (MLB David Harris?) or perhaps a running back (Leon Washington?). Denver needs help in both those categories. But, is it too steep a price for Gang Green?
