Jets Looking for Takers for Thomas Jones?

Jets Camp Football
Last season Thomas Jones of the Jets led the AFC in rushing, but that is not stopping the Jets from putting him on the trading block according to a report from the National Football Post:

The New York Jets are gauging trade interest in RB Thomas Jones(notes), according to National Football Post. The team, bolstered by the addition of rookie Shonn Greene(notes), has placed a call to an NFC West club, a league source told the website.

Jones worked his way out of Chicago to get a new deal with the Jets two years ago. Now, Jones is seeking a new contract after leading the AFC in rushing last season with 1,312 yards and producing a career-high 13 touchdowns.

Jones, who turns 31 next week, has two years remaining on the $20-million, four-year contract he signed with the Bears. Jones has rushed for more than 1,000 yards in four consecutive seasons. He skipped a good portion of the Jets’ voluntary offseason program.

“I’m not discussing any contract situations. Period,” Jones said when he arrived at training camp. “I’m happy. I’m here for camp. I’m excited for the season.”

Jones last season ran for 1312 yards and 13 touchdowns, but fell out of favor with the Jets over his contact demands and the fact the team is looking to get younger in their running back core, the reason they drafted Shonn Greene. If the Jets can get decent value for Jones, it will be interesting to see if they actually pull the trigger on a deal.

  1. Integrity is a + says:

This is what happens when someone makes a deal and wants compensation for doing there job. Would he accept if the Jets Org. gave him a paycut for his lack-luster first season w/ the team? Probably not.Besides, he got the majority of his pay upfront. Ill miss ya TJ, But Honor is more important.
As far as Leon goes, He is deserving of a raise, but he will get it next season. Be patient my man, This Org. Takes care of their own. Thats why we were able to land the FA’s we have.
