Sheppard Won’t Get a Roster Bonus

While Lito Sheppard will be a starting corner this year, it looks like he won’t get a roster bonus:

If he can manage to remain healthy for the next 3 weeks, Lito Sheppard will open the season as the Jets’ starting right corner. Sheppard figures to get picked on a lot this season since the Jets’ left corner, Darrelle Revis, is one of the best cover men in the league. Interestingly, Sheppard will earn the same amount of money from the Jets this season that he was scheduled to receive from the Eagles. He signed a 4-year, $27.2 million extension with the Jets after he was traded, but it’s essentially make-believe money. The extension calls for him to receive a $10 million roster bonus next March, but his chances of getting that are nonexistent. If he gets hurt or doesn’t play well this season, he’ll be released. If he does play well, the Jets will try to redo his deal rather than give him the huge roster bonus.
