The Jets claimed Glenn Pakulak off waivers from the Saints on Friday to provide Reggie Hodges with competition for the punting job.
Pakulak averaged 47.7 yards per punt for the Saints in the last eight games of 2008 after signing with the club midseason. He was waived on Aug. 17. He is expected to be a realistic challenger for a Jets punting job that has had a series of underwhelming performers in recent seasons.
To make room on the roster, the club waived P Ken Parrish. In an unrelated move, the team also released LB Josh Mauga.
