Sinking Ship; Jets Now 3-3 After Awful 16-13 OT Setback to Bills

Losing to the Saints was well – okay. Losing to the Dolphins was – bad. Losing at home to the Bills in overtime with Buffalo having to play a backup QB? Terrible. But that’s where the Jets are at after Sunday’s home setback, 16-13 to the Bills. They had their chances all day, but usually found themselves giving them back as rookie QB Mark Sanchez had his worst day of his short career.

Sanchez was 10 of 29 for 119 yards with not two, not three, not four – but FIVE intercpetions, including one in overtime with the Jets looking to try and win the game at about midfield. “I don’t know if I could play any worse,” Sanchez said. “It was totally my fault and I owe these guys a lot.”

The Jets also may get some rather awful news today, as nose tackle Kris Jenkins left late in the second quarter with what coach Rex Ryan called a “probably severe” left knee injury. “We’ll know much more about it (Monday),” Ryan said. “Unfortunately, I think it’s probably severe. I’m not sure, though.”

Even with all those things going wrong, the Jets had their shots to win, and gave it away. Thomas Jones went wild, going for 210 yards, including a 71-yard touchdown run, the fifth-longest in team history, which gave the Jets a 13-3 lead with 7:31 remaining before halftime.

The day for Jones was a Jets record, but again, not enough to get the job done. “We lost,” said Jones. “I could’ve had 2 yards. We lost the game.”

And now the Jets are 3-3, losers of three in a row. It’s starting to feel a lot like last season, except it’s happening a whole lot sooner this year.
