Jets Getting Close to Signing Former Saints QB Mark Brunell? reports the Jets appear to be closer to signing QB Mark Brunell:

The New York Jets waived defensive tackle Simi Toeaina on Monday, perhaps clearing the way for a big signing on July 22. The 21-year-old played four seasons for the University of Oregon before signing with the Jets as an undrafted rookie free agent. Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, who first reported the release, also speculates that the move could foreshadow the team signing Mark Brunell. The team has been unable to sign the veteran quarterback thus far due to the NFL’s “Final Eight Plan.” Jets rookies report to training camp on July 29 with veterans showing up on August 1.
