Jets DL Ranks 15th in NFL

Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports has taken the task of ranking all of the defensive lines in the NFL.

With about half of the league employing three man fronts (the Jets among them) and the other half using four man lines, it is tough to compare the two, but Cole took a stab at it anyway.

The Jets came in at #15 on his list, which is right about where they should be.

Here is what Cole had to say about the Jets:

15. New York Jets : Give the Jets a lot of credit last year for surviving the loss of nose tackle Kris Jenkins, who is right behind the likes of Jay Ratliff and Vince Wilfork. Backup Sione Pouha was very impressive in subbing for Jenkings. Also, give end Shaun Ellis a lot of credit for succeeding in the 3-4 the past four years despite really being more of a 4-3 player. Ellis has great functional strength for his size, allowing him to play inside more. The problem with this line is that there’s not very much depth and end Vernon Gholston has been a disaster. As great of a job as former coach Eric Mangini did in picking cornerback Darrelle Revis, he did exactly the opposite when he pushed for 2008 first-rounder Gholston, a player who simply doesn’t like football that much.
