Jenkins Says He and the Team Support Players Holding Out

Kris Jenkins is speaking out again, this time on some players that are thinking about holding out – CB Darrelle Revis and center Nick Mangold. The NY Post reports that Jenkins has a message for the two players – I and we support you:

Kris Jenkins had a message for Darrelle Revis and Nick Mangold: We got your back. Both Revis and Mangold are looking for contract extensions before training camp starts next week, and could consider holding out if they don’t get one.

“You have to understand that this is a business, so each individual player has to take the time out to worry about himself in the offseason,” Jenkins said in an interview with the NFL Network. “That’s their business. We understand that as players. So Nick and Darrelle., they know that we’re behind them.” Jenkins, who missed the final 10 games of 2009 with a torn ACL, says the team will be patient if Revis and/or Mangold decide to hold out from training camp, which begins Aug. 1 in Cortland. That in part could be due to the fact that most of the team watched Leon Washington play without an extension last season just to break his leg and be traded away to the Seahawks.

“They have to do their thing,” Jenkins said. “That’s between them and the organization. We don’t know how that works for them. Only they know that. None of us are coming to any hasty mis-judgements or anything. We are going to stay calm and wait for them to show up at camp to get us working as a team and getting ready to play.” Revis didn’t provide any updates on his extension talks during a chat with fans today on the NFL Players website, but did say his goal was to retire with the Jets. “That’s always been my goal,” Revis said. “When they drafted me, I told them this is one of the biggest things they did, and I won’t let them down.
