Recapping the Day at Training Camp

The day started with the news that the Jets and Darrelle Revis remain $40 million apart in contract negotiations.

The Jets reportedly have a 10 year $120 million offer on the table, while Revis is presumably looking for a deal in the neighborhood of $160 million, which would make him the highest paid corner in the league.

The two sides still have four and a half weeks to iron out a deal before the season starts.

Now onto what happened in Cortland:

  • Nick Mangold had his bell rung in individual drills by Sione Pouha. He sat out the rest of practice as a precautionary measure, but says he is fine.
  • Nick Folk was 4-6 on field goals, missing from 42 and 44 yards.
  • Vernon Gholston had another impressive day, beating Wayne Hunter twice in pass rushing drills.
  • Rex said that it was “pretty much pre-determined” that Brunell would be the backup to Mark Sanchez. Kellen Clemens can’t be too thrilled hearing this. I’m starting to feel sorry for the guy. The Jets should just cut him loose now so he he can try and latch on to another team, because there is no way he is going to make the Jets roster at this point. Though Clemens did connect with Marcus Henry on a 50 yard touchdown today at camp.
  • Rex praised rookie corner Kyle Wilson and called him the player who has impressed him the most on defense. He raved about his work ethic and studying skills.
  • Rex also chimed in on how to end the Darrelle Revis holdout. “Everybody put their cards on the table,” Ryan said. “Darrelle comes here with anybody he wants. We’ll call off our practice and have the whole team there. We’ll have everybody there and maybe that’s how it’ll get done.” Rex is known to joke around every know and then, but he was apparently dead serious and is getting extremely frustrated about the whole situation.
