Quick Hits From Training Camp

Some quick news and notes from today at Jets camp.

  • Nick Mangold (head) sat out of practice again. He should return to the practice field tomorrow.
  • The Jets and Darrelle Revis’ agent released a joint statement today reading “Both parties have had conversations to clear the air and will continue to negotiate with the hopes of reaching an agreement. From this point forward, all discussions regarding these negotiations will remain confidential.” That’s the best news about this situation in a long time.
  • Rex’s mom was not too thrilled to see her boy swearing as much as he did on Hard Knocks.
  • Nick Folk was an impressive 6-7. His lone miss was blocked by Braylon Edwards.
  • Rex said that rookie John Connor is pushing veteran Tony Richardson for his starting gig and likely his roster spot. He said it’s going to be tough, but the coaches seem to love Connor And for good reason. It seems like every day there is a story about him knocking someone’s block off.
  • Matt Slauson continues to get the majority of reps at left guard, ahead of rookie Vlad Ducasse.
  • At the end of the morning practice Drew Coleman lined up for a 44 yard field goal and if he made it, the team would have a “movie night” instead of meetings. The kick had enough distance, but missed wide right. Rex still decided to go ahead with “movie night.” I’m sure we’ll be seeing that next week on Hard Knocks.
