Jets Ink Nick Mangold to Contract Extension

The Jets have signed another member of their “Core Four,” but it isn’t the player everyone expected. It’s Nick Mangold, the Jets All Pro center.

Mangold, unlike Darrelle Revis, showed up for training camp despite being less than thrilled with his current contract. The Jets rewarded Mangold with a seven year $55 million extension.

The deal comes as a mild surprise as the Jets were not expected to talk about an extension until after the current season. Mangold even said that the Jets approached him “out of the blue” a couple of weeks ago.

Mangold joins fellow offensive lineman D’Brickashaw Ferguson as the only two of the “Core Four” to be signed. There has been much speculation that Revis would sign next, and soon, but it appears as if nothing is imminent. Linebacker Davis Harris isn’t expected to receive a new contract until after this season.

Mangold, a first round pick in 2006, has started every game since being drafted as he has worked his way to become the best center in the game. And now he is paid like it.
