Mark Sanchez Avoiding the Sophomre Slump

The big question with the Jets heading into the 2010 season was how well Mark Sanchez would play. After one game, there was cause for concern but since then Sanchez has been brilliant and has avoided the dreaded sophomore slump, which has plagues many young quarterbacks. The NY Times Fifth Down Blog charted a list of quarterbacks taken in the top 15 since 1998 and compared them with Sanchez. The summary is below, but check out the entire article to get a more in-depth look.

Sanchez has improved slightly in YPA – going from 6.7 to 6.9. He has made major gains in limiting interceptions (0 through 4 games after having 20 last season), and he has eight touchdown passes (after having 12 all of last season). It’s not an exact science – and the season is young – but those numbers suggest Sanchez is headed toward success.
