Jets blanked by the Packers 9-0

The Jets inept offense was no match Halloween Sunday for a scary Packers defense that did the job all day as New York was shut out by the Packers 9-0 to fall to 5-2 on the season.

“It felt embarrassing to be shut out at home,” right tackle Damien Woody said. “Our personnel and our coaching staff is too good for us to be shut out at home.”

Mark Sanchez and the Jets’ offense couldn’t get much of anything going after a bye-week break. New York, which entered tied for the league’s best record, had its five-game winning streak end. The Jets were also shut out for the first time since a 10-0 loss to Chicago on Nov. 19, 2006, at home.

The team killed themselves with dropped passes, three turnovers and seven costly penalties. They seemed to have chances till the end, that is until a fourth down pass play to Braylon Edwards was incomplete and the Packers eventually kicked a game-clinching field goal.

“A shutout is ridiculous when you’re at home,’’ center Nick Mangold said. “It’s disappointing for us, disappointing for our fans.’’

Sanchez didn’t have a great game, but didn’t get a lot of help from pass catchers who had the drops all day. He was 16-for-38, 256 yards, and 2 picks. He called the game “just a poor job on my part.”

“We didn’t play well at all and it was a very frustrating day to say the least,’’ Jerricho Cotchery said. “When you’re not making plays you start pressing, get out of character and you end up making more mistakes. That’s what happened out there.’’

Maybe it was just because it was Halloween, or maybe it’s a loss that will refocus the team. Whatever the case, the Jets need to get set as they will be at Detroit next week. “Weird day all the way around, man,’’ Jets linebacker Calvin Pace said.
