Mark Sanchez Doesn’t Need Shoulder Surgery

New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez received great news on Thursday revealing that he does not need offseason surgery on his throwing shoulder, according to Manish Mehta of the NY Daily News.

“They were just really pleased with the way things have healed,” Sanchez told a handful reporters on Thursday night.  “The swelling and bruising type stuff is gone, so they’re really happy about that…. That’s good news.”

Sanchez, who suffered the injury in the Jets’ Week 15 win in Pittsburgh on Dec. 19, will undergo “active rest” that will include rehab exercises such as stretching. Sanchez threw lightly earlier this week, but won’t throw for “a while” now. He didn’t anticipate that the hiatus will last longer than a month.

They want me to take time off and relax,” he added.

Sanchez, who has won as many road playoff games as any quarterback in league history, will return to the team’s facility in Florham Park, NJ, in late February for the final week before the current collective bargaining agreement expires March 3. Montgomery will give Sanchez a precautionary checkup at that time. Players, of course, are not permitted to be examined by team medical personnel during a potential lockout.

Montgomery told Sanchez that the rehab “it’s not going to be just-a-sit-around and see-how-you-feel-in-August type thing.”

“I’m committed to the team,” Sanchez said. “I’ll do everything I can mentally and physically to be ready to play and I know I will.”

Obviously, this is great news for the team. Unlike last offseason, Sanchez will not have to rehab from surgery and can focus all his time on preparing for the upcoming season.

    I like Sanchez.
He’s shown some real toughness this year.
As a QB(retired but still throwing the pill), he’s got to dig in some more on his long ball.
That is, stay with the motion, use more body… More leg drive.
I also think on his middies…he’s got to get more on the pill. It’s got to be a heavier ball and tighter.
    That means arm strength.
    Good luck,bud
