Report: The Jets Will Let Anotnio Cromartie Walk in Free Agency

Mike Lombardi of NFL Network, reported on NFL Total Access that the Jets plan to let free agent cornerback Antonio Cromartie walk in free agency.

“I think they’re willing to let him walk,” said Lombardi. “They’ll allow him to become a free agent, and they’ll focus their attention on Braylon Edwards and Santonio Holmes — they want to get both those players under contract.”

In his season ending press conference Mike Tannenbaum said of Cromartie, “By and large, he had a good year on the field,” he said. “It wasn’t perfect, but I’m glad he was a Jet.”

The Jets did draft Kyle Wilson in the first round last year, but he struggled to get on the field. It would be quite the risk to let Cromartie walk and assume Wilson would be ready to take over the stating role.

Though, Manish Mehta of the NY Daily News is disputing Lombardi’s report.
