Breakdown of the Third Day of the Draft for the Jets

NFL.com breaks down day three for the Jets, and gives their take on some background on the players the team picked.

Round 4, Pick 29 (126) Bilal Powell RB 5’11” 207 Louisville 4.8

Pick Analysis: Rex Ryan loves to feature a punishing running game, and Powell gives them another hammer to add to their rotation. He has a combination of strength, power and body control to be effective between the tackles on downhill runs. He will have a tough time taking carries from Shonn Greene and LaDainian Tomlinson but could vie for playing time as the Jets’ No. 3 runner.

Round 5, Pick 22 (153) (From Eagles) Jeremy Kerley WR 5’10” 189 TCU 5.5

Pick Analysis: With uncertainty among the Jets’ receiving corps, Rex Ryan and Mike Tannenbaum pick up a quality pass catcher with skills. He will compete for playing time as third or fourth receiver and provide some athleticism to their kicking units.

Round 7, Pick 5 (208) (From Cardinals) Greg McElroy QB 6’2″ 220 Alabama 3.2

Pick Analysis: The Jets probably found a quality backup to Mark Sanchez with the selection of McElroy, who has the mental ability to grasp the NFL.

Round 7, Pick 24 (227) (From Seahawks through Eagles) Scotty McKnight WR 5’11” 182 Colorado
