SUNY-Cortland to be Patiend When it Come to the Jets

On Tuesday,’s Albert Breer noted that the New York Jets were facing a July 1 deadline to hold their 2011 training camp on the SUNY-Cortland campus.

A team spokesman informed Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News that the July 1 was an internal “point of reference”, not necessarily a hard deadline.

Citing a March report by the Daily News, Mehta notes that if the Jets do not hold training camp in Cortland, their current three-year agreement would extend to the 2013 season.

Jenny Vrentas of The Star-Ledger adds that Cortland officials are preparing for either scenario.

“We’re moving ahead, assuming the Jets will be coming,” SUNY-Cortland public relations director Fred Pierce said. “But also knowing everything is up in the air, knowing they may not be coming.

“We’re not expecting July 1. It will be much later than that. It would be great if it were (July 1), but we know if this thing goes on, we’re willing to be flexible.”
