Ellis’ Trial Pushed Back Till July 12th

Jets third-round defensive lineman Kenrick Ellis’ trial, scheduled for July 12th, has been pushed back until November 28, Jenny Vrentas of The Star-Ledger reports.

Ellis is facing felony malicious wounding charges after an incident on the campus of Hampton University in April of 2010.

Rich Cimini of ESPN New York notes that Ellis was born in Jamaica and is not a U.S. citizen. He does have “permanent resident” status, but if convicted of an “aggravated felony”, he could be deported.

The 6-foot-5, 346-pound Ellis changed attorney’s recently, and the new defense asked for the continuance. Ellis has changed his representation in the NFL, as well, replacing Howard Shatsky of Professional Football Management with Goal Line Management last month.
