Jets FB Conner Expected To Play Against Cowboys Week One

“The Terminator”

Jets fullback John Conner (sprained ankle) is expected to play Sunday against the Cowboys, but he’s still not participating during practicing.

On Wednesday, Conner was in full gear with the rest of his cronies, however, as they went inside due to rain, he didn’t take part in any positional drills during the 30-minute window available to the media. That means he won’t be in on any team drills. Yet, he worked on the side with a trainer, undergoing various agility sets, in which he looked to be functioning well.

If Conner plays, don’t expect him to see a huge role. Facing a shaky Dallas secondary, which could be missing CB Terence Newman (groin), the Jets plan to use a lot of one-back, three-receiver formations. The Cowboys’ other starting cornerback, Mike Jenkins (neck stinger), who missed the entire preseason, just got injured again.  “America’s Team” could start the season with only three corners in play.

Other news: CB Darrelle Revis (hip), NT Sione Pouha (knee) and QB Mark Brunell (calf) were in full pads and participated in position drills. Brunell worked with a sleeve on his pulled calf, which caused him to miss the last two preseason games.

More notes: This was the Jets’ first padded practice of the season. Under the new CBA, each team is allowed 14.
