Jets Get Conditional Seventh-Round Pick For Derrick Mason

After trading disgruntled veteran wide receiver Derrick Mason to the Houston, Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum insisted that Mason would be with the Jets “for the balance of the season” had the Texans not called and offered a draft choice.

During ESPN’s Sunday Countdown, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the draft choice the Texans sent to the Jets is a conditional seventh-round pick based on Mason’s production. In order for the Jets to get that seventh-round pick, Mason needs 33 receptions over the final 11 games of the season.

Mason caught 13 passes for 115 yards and zero touchdowns in his five games with the Jets. In the first game following a report surfacing that Mason was one of three wide receivers to complain to head coach Rex Ryan about Brian Schottenheimer’s offense, Mason was limited to just a handful of snaps.

A pick is a pick, unfortunately, I don’t see us getting one. He had 3 for 27 this weekend, but color me shocked if he ended up with 32. Regardless, I think it’s time for the Jets to get younger at the wideout position.
