At 16th Pick Jets Snag Coples

Out of the University Of North Carolina Quinton Coples is a 6’6  284 pound DE. He is a fantastic athlete, and according to multiple scouts is perfect for the 3-4. When that 16th pick came by the Jets had the luxury  of a plethora of D-Ends on the board. Syracuse’s Chandler Jones (picked by Patriots) and South Carolina’s Melvin Ingram (picked by Chargers). With that the Jets were high enough on Coples to take him ahead of the rest.

Work ethic has been questioned about Coples. With just 7.5 sacks last year, some scouts said “he coasted through his senior season.” After posting 10 sacks as a junior. Coming into tonight it was clear the Jets were looking for a big DE who can get to the quarterback, and the Jets feel they got that. As reported by Jake Asman, Rex Ryan told Coples that if he is available at 16 they were going to pick him. One thing that can’t be denied is that Quinton Coples has as much potential as any defensive end in this years draft.
