The Niners looked like a Super Bowl teams in week 1 and 2, and then last week went to Minnesota and laid an egg in losing to the Minnesota Vikings.
They will have to shore up both offense and defense this week as they head to the Big Apple to take on Mark Sanchez and the Jets, a team that was just happy to survive a game in Miami last week.
San Fran scored 57 points and committed one turnover while winning each of its first two games but last week gave the ball away three times, including Alex Smith‘s first interception in a team-record 249 passes, and managed only one touchdown in a 24-13 loss.
They were also held to 89 rushing yards after totaling 334 in their first two games.
“When you’re only putting up 13 points on offense, it’s usually not going to get it done. We’ve got to get better,” Smith said. “We didn’t execute well enough in the red zone. We kicked too many field goals down there. We would love to get (touchdowns). There’s a lot we can get better on.”
