Ryan Says He’s ‘Disappointed’ About the ‘Retirement’ of Fireman Ed

Rex Ryan is ‘disappointed’ about the end of Fireman Ed.

The Jets’ most famous fan tendered his resignation Sunday night, announcing that he was stepping away from his post — though he would stay a fan.

“I was disappointed because I love that guy’s passion and energy that he would bring,” Ryan said. “He’s a great fan. I really admire him. He was great.”

Ryan repeated his admiration for Ed Anzalone, a New York City firefighter for two decades who became notable for wearing a fireman’s helmet to games and leading fans in the stadium in a “Jets” chant.

“I like Fireman Ed and if he could play linebacker I’d play him,” Ryan said.
