DB Coach Dennis Thurman Expected To Be New Defensive Coordinator

Jets defensive coordinator Mike Pettine, who will be interviewing for the same position with the Bills, won’t be back, coach Rex Ryan said today.

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News has learned that defensive backs coach Dennis Thurman is expected to replace Pettine. There will be a similar dynamic for the Jets’ defense as in 2009. Ryan and Thurman will share play-calling duties, according to a source.

Pettine gradually became the primary play caller over the past few years. This season, he made every defensive call during the second half of the season.
