If you saved your old #17 jersey, you’re in luck…He’s back!
According to Manish Mehta and Seth Walder of the New York Daily News, Braylon Edwards is currently taking a physical with the Jets, and pending the results is expected to sign with the team on Thursday, just in time for the opening of training camp.
This will be Edwards’ third stint in New York. He was originally traded to the Jets from the Cleveland Browns in 2009, and had his best season with the team in 2010 — 53 receptions, 904 yards and 7 touchdowns. Edwards second tour of duty with the Jets came in mid-2012 after he was released by the Seattle Seahawks. In 2012 he caught just 18 passes for 199 yards and a touchdown with the Seahawks and Jets combined.
With no set return date for the teams top receiver, Santonio Holmes, who is currently recovering from a lisfranc injury, Edwards’ signing comes as no surprise. He will provide depth and veteran leadership for a young group of receivers, and a familiar trusted face for Mark Sanchez.
