Santonio Holmes to Miss First 4 Games

The Jets are unlikely to have Santonio Holmes on the field to start the season. It now looks like the earliest the team will see their starting wide receiver is week 5.

According to Monday’s New York Post, Holmes told friends he expects to miss the first four games of the season. Holmes has been sidelined since late October when he suffered a grade-4 lisfranc injury — the worst injury of it’s kind. And he has still not participated in any football related activities during his rehab.

Losing Holmes for the opening four games is a blow for the Jets, but it is better than the earlier rumors which indicated that Holmes may miss the entire season.

Without Holmes, the Jets don’t have a difference maker at wide receiver. They will open the season relying on a combination of aging veterans — Braylon Edwards and Kellen Winslow Jr. — and inexperienced first and second year players — Stephen Hill and Clyde Gates, hardly a recipe for success.
