The New York Jets released 15 players on Monday, including RB Joe McKnight, WR Braylon Edwards and G Stephen Peterman.

In order to comply with league rules, and cut their roster down to 75 players, the team also released: RB Chad Spann, OL Patrick Ford, OL Trey Gilleo, WR Joe Collins, WR Marcus Rucker, WR K.J. Stroud, WR Rahsaan Vaughn, LB Sean Progar-Jackson, DB Donnie Fletcher, DB Bret Lockett, P Ryan Quigley and LS Patrick Scales.

The writing was on the wall for Braylon Edwards when the team signed Mohamad Massaquoi last week. Edwards was brought in as a veteran presence, but hasn’t performed as well as the Jets hoped he would. Many thought veteran running back Joe McKnight’s roster spot was safe due to the Jets lack of depth at the position. But he has had a rough training camp, and his combined off-field problems were becoming too much of a distraction to justify his presence.
