The Jets claimed two players, RB Alex Green and OLB Scott Solomon, on waivers Sunday, according to sources.
Green, formally of the Green Bay Packers, was the Packers leading rusher last season. He ran for 464 yards on 135 attempts, an average of 3.4 yards per rush. He was released by the Packers during final cuts due to the emergence of the Packers’ top draft pick Eddie Lacy. The Jets do need some depth at running back, at least until Mike Goodson returns from his 4-week suspension. The team currently has four running backs on the roster — Chris Ivory, Bilal Powell, Khalil Bell, and Tommy Bohanon (FB). But, Green’s presence will likely make Khalil Bell, who led the Jets in the pre-season with 4 touchdowns, expendable.
The Jets also acquired OLB/DE Scott Solomon. Solomon was a seventh round pick of the Tennessee Titans in 2012. He played in 13 games last season, but compiled only 4 tackles.
