The New York Jets released 22 players on Saturday, including QB Greg McElroy, as they cut the team down to 53 players.
The Jets released: QB Greg McElroy, WR Ben Obomanu, WR Mohamed Massaquoi, WR Michael Campbell, WR Zach Rogers, TE Chris Pantale, OL Erik Cook, OL J.B. Shugarts, OL Jason Smith, DL Junior Aumavae, DL Lanier Coleman, DL Antonio Garay, DL Tevita Finau, LB JoJo Dickson, LB Jacquies Smith, LB Troy Davis, DB Mike Edwards DB Royce Adams, DB Rontez Miles and K Dan Carpenter.
The Jets also released RB Moises Madu (concussion) with an injury settlement, and moved RB Mike Goodson to the reserve suspended list — he will not count towards the teams 53 man roster.
The only surprise within the teams current 53 man roster is that the Jets kept 4 quarterbacks; Geno Smith, Mark Sanchez, Matt Simms and Graham Harrell. The fact that the Jets kept Harrell on the roster clearly shows the team aren’t satisfied that Mark Sanchez will be healthy in time for next week’s game against Tampa Bay. If that’s the case, the Jets will have a group of quarterbacks heading into the season opener that have attempted only 4 passes between them — all four by former Packers quarterback Graham Harrell.
