As the Jets gear up for their week two match-up against the New England Patriots, we’d like to welcome in Morgan Smith, the lead writer from PatriotsGab.com, to talk about what the Jets can expect from the Patriots during Thursday’s game.

Jets Gab: You have a lot of injures at the moment, Amendola, Gronkowski and Vereen, how will the Patriots overcome those against the Jets?

Morgan Smith: Those are three huge losses for New England so it will be very difficult to overcome tomorrow night but I’d say New England will try to establish the run game. The Patriots will try to use the run to set up play action plays.

JG: Do you think the short week, and a no practice sessions, will hurt the Patriots?

MS: The short week is hard for both teams, especially the team traveling, but the walk-thrus the Patriots have conducted may actually help the rookies. The rookie wideouts did not have a good game Sunday, and Kenbrell Thompkins looked lost out there. It may benefit the rookies that the Patriots are slowing everything down and walking through the plays over and over again. That is the hope anyways.

JG: Last week’s game came down to the wire, did the Buffalo Bills reveal any weakness in the Patriots?

MS: The Bills, Jets, and Dolphins have all played New England close in at least one of the two meetings the last few seasons. It is hard to beat your rivals, no matter the difference people think the talent for each team is. But I think they did, they showed that the Patriots offensive linemen Ryan Wendell and Dan Connolly have a hard time picking up blitzes. The Bills were using complicated blitzes against New England and their interior linemen had a hard time picking it up. If you get pressure on Brady, New England struggles to move the ball. Also, New England still isn’t proving they have a deep threat, so if you squat on their short routes, it makes it harder for the Patriots to get a passing attack.

JG: Who do you expect will play a big role in Thursday’s game for the Patriots?

MS: I expect Julian Edelman. He had two touchdowns against the Bills and with Amendola expected to miss he is the next guy Brady trust the most. Dobson or Thompkins could show up big but because their rookies and so unknown it is safer to think Edelman will have a big impact.

JG: Tell us what match-ups favor the Patriots in the game against the Jets?

MS: The defensive line of New England against the Jets offensive line. The Jets struggled to get the running game going against the Bucs, and Geno was sacked 5xs, and Chandler Jones, and Rob Ninkovich are capable defensive ends who can provide pressure. Tommy Kelly and Vince Wilfork are also on the inside to stop the run, so I think the defensive line of the Pats are favored over the Jets offensive line.

JG: Finally, what’s your prediction for the game?

MS: I fully expect this game to be really close. Patriots 20 , Jets 17
