The Jets lost several key players to injury during their loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.
Running Back Mike Goodson, who had just returned to the line-up after serving a 4 game suspension, tore his both the ACL and MCL ligaments in his knee — ending his season. The injury occurred late in the game when Goodson was attempting to tackle Steelers LB Lawrence Timmons after Geno Smith’s second interception.
Goodson’s loss is a blow for the Jets offense. In his first year with the team, Goodson looked like the spark plug the Jets offense was missing. He was averaging 3.5 yards per carry, and was becoming more involved in their game-plan.
“Is it ideal? No, it’s not an ideal situation,” Rex Ryan said about the injury on Monday “You’re so excited about the type of explosiveness that young man presents. Then he has the MCL/ACL injury and he’s going to be out for the year. That’s an unfortunate thing for sure.”
The Jets also lost starting running back, Bilal Powell, WR Clyde Gates and CB Kyle Wilson. Powell suffered a shoulder injury early in the game, but he did return. Gates suffered a partial shoulder dislocation, and Wilson suffered a concussion.
