Jets Welcome Back Trio of Playmakers

Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes returns to the line-up on Sunday against the Bills — he had 154 yards against the Bills in week 3

Geno Smith can finally look downfield to pass and expect to see a few trusted faces. The Jets will welcome back three of their top playmakers to the line-up this weekend against the Buffalo Bills: Santonio Holmes, Kellen Winslow Jnr, and Jeff Cumberland.

Holmes, the teams best receiver, missed five games with an injured hamstring, and the Jets offense sputtered in his absence. Geno Smith has averaged just 181 yards passing since Holmes’s injury — he averaged 272.5 yards per game before Holmes got hurt. With the Jets traveling to Buffalo to face the Bills, Holmes’s timing couldn’t be more perfect. Holmes had a career high 154-yards receiving in the Jets week 3 victory over the Bills earlier in the season.

The Jets also welcome back their top two tight ends: Kellen Winslow Jr. and Jeff Cumberland. Winslow has spent the last four games away from the team due to a 4-game suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. The veteran tight end is still yet to be notified by the NFL as to what he actually tested positive for, but nevertheless, he believes the break has done him good. Before Winslow’s suspension, his chronic knee problems were beginning to flare up again. Cumberland, who missed the Jets last game against the New Orleans Saints due to a concussion, will also re-join the line-up to further bolster the teams offensive attack.

In total the Jets have just added 42 receptions, 660-yards and 5TD’s. When you quantify what the offense has been missing the previous few weeks, it’s astounding to think that Jets managed to produce any offense at all.
