The New York Jets came to an agreement with all-pro safety Ed Reed on Thursday.
Reed cleared waivers after the Houston Texans released him earlier in the week. The former all-pro safety previously played for Jets’ head coach Rex Ryan when Ryan was the a Baltimore Ravens assistant between 2002 and 2008.
Reed signed a 3-year $15 million contract in the offseason with the Houston Texans. However, much like the Texans season, Reed’s time with the team was disappointing — he missed the first two games, then appeared in only 49% of the teams defensive snaps.
The Jets announced that Reed will participate in practice on Thursday. However, it’s not clear if Reed will be ready to play on Sunday when the Jets visit the Buffalo Bills.
