The Jets on Tuesday made it official: Chan Gailey has been hired as the team’s offensive coordinator, Dom Cosentino of the Newark Star-Ledger.
Gailey, the former Cowboys, Georgia Tech, and Bills head coach, had been pegged several days ago as the guy head coach Todd Bowles wanted for the job. On Monday, word trickled out that Gailey’s hire was not a certainty. But then Gailey told NJ Advance Media’s Darryl Slater he wanted the job but that the two sides were still negotiating.
Gailey also told Slater he didn’t have much to say about quarterback Geno Smith, though he added he would “do what’s best for the personnel that we have.” Gailey’s also been out of coaching since being fired by the Bills after the 2012 season, but he doesn’t think that will hamper his ability to succeed as a coordinator.
