Where Will The Jets Finish After Remodelling Their Roster From The 2015 Season?

New England Patriots v New York Jets

The New York Jets are now hallway through their 16 games of the regular NFL season. From the eight games they have a record of three wins and five losses. This isn’t as good compared to their 5-3 record at the same stage last season, and it wouldn’t be surprising for Jets fans to be a little disheartened at the time being. Last season, they finished seventh in the AFC Conference, one place outside the Wild Card spots. Coach, Todd Bowles would have been hoping for a big improvement this season, but as they currently sit in 12th place, they are quite a way off with much work still to do.

Current Form

The Jets hit a particularly bad patch of form, losing four games in a row through games 3-6. The games lost against the Kansas City Chiefs and the Arizona Cardinals were particularly bad, with the Jets scoring only three points on each occasion. Their poor form has been the focus of many NFL blogs, with many fans bringing up the fact that Ryan Fitzpatrick had only thrown 3 for 14 for 30 yards in the first half against the Cleveland Browns. Despite the criticism, the Jets did manage to find the performance they needed, scoring 24 points in the second half to win the game 31-28. This result came hot on the heels of a 24-16 win over the Baltimore Ravens. With two wins on the bounce, it would be great if this led the way to a change in form.

At the start of the season, Jets players and fans alike had genuine aspirations of building on the ten wins from last season and reaching the playoffs. Quarterback, Ryan Fitzpatrick has accepted that he deserves most of the blame as he hasn’t been playing at his best, and sadly, a team can only perform as well as their best QB. Despite his poor form, Fitzpatrick has played every game with has left a number of fans outraged. Even Joe Namath (Jets legend and Pro Football Hall of Famer) has been calling for Bryce Petty to take Fitzpatrick’s place. Petty has been with Jets since 2015 and never taken a snap in the NFL, if he was given a chance, what’s the worst that could happen?

Up Next

Miami Dolphins are the next opponents for the Jet who have played one game less due to their bye week, the Jets get theirs in week 11. The Dolphins defeated the Buffalo Bills in week 7 (only their third of the season) and it was recently announced that their game next season against the New Orleans Saints will take place at Wembley Stadium as part of the annual International Series. Then they face a visit from the Los Angeles Rams who are in a similar dire straits with a 3-4 record, and they’ve also just had their bye week. Competition for the Wild Card spots is currently very tight, and two big wins for the Jets could put them straight back in the playoff picture.
