Jets QB Christian Hackenberg Still “Exclusively” Working with Scout Team

In the best clue yet as to what his team actually thinks about him, Jets second-year second-round quarterback Christian Hackenberg is still “exclusively” working out with the scout team and is splitting reps with second-year UDFA Joel Stave according to Connor Hughes of NJ.com.

The Jets have already ruled out Hackenberg as a starting option in Week 16 or 17 (apparently he cannot beat out the immortal Bryce Petty) but remaining on the scout team makes it clear that he has not progressed at all in the two years he has been in the Jets offensive system.

The bottom line is that Hackenberg is simply not an NFL-caliber player-and nobody but the Jets ever thought he was when they shockingly made him the No.51-overall pick in the 2016. Consider that second-year QB Jacoby Brissett was starting for the Indianapolis Colts less than a week after being traded there. It seems pretty obvious that Hackenberg will not be on the Jets roster in 2018 and may be cut as early as the offseason.
