Jets RB Matt Forte Says He’s Been Playing Most of the Season on One Leg

Jets running back Matt Forte, who might not be back with the team in 2018, said Thursday he spent a large chunk of this season “playing on one leg,” due to knee swelling, Darryl Slater of the Newark Star-Ledger reports.

But Forte, who on Sunday will finish his 10th NFL season, said he wants to play next season and wants to return to the Jets. Forte turned 32 earlier this month.

Forte is in the second season of a three-year contract. He hasn’t put up eye-popping stats with the Jets — 1,194 rushing yards (3.7 per carry) and nine touchdowns in 26 games, plus 556 receiving yards and two touchdown catches.

“When I was healthy and got the opportunities, I think I produced at a decent level,” Forte said of his time with the Jets so far. “Since the bye week [this year], I’ve been basically playing on one leg, so that’s been tough. Obviously, that hinders your production level.”
